"Highs and lows from last week"
Monday, July 20, 2009

We've called for a more serious approach toward underage drinking, and the Westerly Town Council showed last week that it's also concerned about the issue. Several members of the community, from students to grandparents, backed a new social host ordinance, the first of its kind in the state. As Councilor Chris Duhamel stated, we hope no one has to pay any fines. There's simply no reason for adults to allow teenagers to become drunk under their watch. Too many people have been maimed or killed due to underage drunk driving. The town's doing what's right.
